  7. Test before use. Check continuity between the appropriate ends and test for unwanted connections between conductors. Only connect the finished cable to the keyboard and computer after it passes these checks.

USB-C compatibility and safety

A cable intended for a keyboard is usually designed around USB 2.0 data and standard power rather than high-power USB-C applications. USB-C does not automatically mean that every cable or connector supports every USB-C feature. Power Delivery and higher-current uses require appropriate wiring, configuration, and components, so a basic DIY keyboard cable should not be treated as a general-purpose USB-C power cable.

Always verify the connector orientation and pinout, especially when using a USB-C plug board. A wiring mistake can cause unreliable operation or damage connected equipment. A multimeter check for continuity and shorts is an essential step, not an optional cosmetic inspection.
