What is key rollover in membrane keyboards

Logi Options is Logitech’s desktop utility for configuring selected keyboards, mice, and some headsets. It brings device settings into one interface, making it easier to adjust controls without searching for separate drivers or model-specific installers.

The software is especially useful with productivity-focused devices such as the MX Master mouse and MX Keys keyboard. Depending on the hardware, you can remap buttons, create application-specific settings, adjust scrolling and pointer behavior, configure gestures, and manage other device features.

What you can do with Logi Options

Logi Options is designed to adapt Logitech hardware to the way you work. Available controls vary by model, but common options include:

  • Assigning new actions to mouse buttons and keyboard keys
  • Creating different settings for individual applications
  • Configuring gestures and modifier-button behavior
  • Adjusting pointer speed, scrolling direction, and scrolling sensitivity
  • Customizing function keys and other keyboard controls
  • Managing settings for compatible devices connected to the computer

Application-specific profiles are useful when the same button needs to perform different tasks in different programs. For example, a mouse button might control browser navigation in one application and trigger a shortcut in a creative program. Profiles can reduce repetitive keyboard commands and help keep frequently used controls close at hand.

Installing the software on Windows or macOS

Download Logi Options from Logitech’s official software pages and choose the installer for your operating system. After installation, connect the keyboard or mouse using its USB cable, wireless receiver, or supported Bluetooth connection. Open the application and select the device to view the settings available for that model.

On macOS, the application may request permission to monitor input or control certain system functions. These permissions are needed for features such as custom buttons, shortcuts, and gestures. Review the request carefully and allow the Logitech software in macOS privacy and security settings when required. If the device has limited functionality after installation, revisiting these permissions and restarting the Mac can help.

Older Logitech hardware may be associated with references to wireless keyboard drivers, mouse drivers, or legacy setup packages. In many cases, Logi Options provides the central configuration experience, but compatibility still depends on the device. If a product does not appear in the application, check Logitech’s support information for that specific model rather than installing an unrelated driver.

Logi Options and Logi Bolt

Logi Options and Logi Bolt serve different purposes. Logi Options is primarily used to customize supported device behavior. Logi Bolt software manages compatible Bolt wireless receivers and the devices paired with them.

If a keyboard or mouse uses a Logi Bolt receiver, install the relevant Bolt software when pairing or managing the connection. The receiver and the configuration application may both be needed: one handles the wireless connection, while the other provides button, key, gesture, and profile settings.

Using it alongside Logitech gaming software

Logitech gaming peripherals, including products such as the G502, are generally configured with Logitech G HUB rather than Logi Options. G HUB is intended for gaming controls such as gaming profiles, macros, DPI settings, and lighting.

A computer can contain both applications when it has separate productivity and gaming devices. Use Logi Options for compatible office-oriented hardware and G HUB for gaming peripherals. Assign each device to the application that supports it, and avoid creating duplicate functions in multiple utilities when possible.

Troubleshooting common setup problems

If a Logitech device is missing or unresponsive, work through these checks:

  • Confirm that the device has sufficient battery power and is switched on.
  • Check the USB cable, receiver, or Bluetooth connection.
  • Try another USB port, particularly if a wireless receiver is not detected.
  • Open Logi Options and check whether the device appears with limited settings.
  • For Logi Bolt hardware, use the Bolt pairing software to reconnect the receiver.
  • On macOS, review Logitech permissions in the system privacy and security settings.
  • Reinstall the application if the installation appears incomplete or settings fail to load.

Wireless interference can also affect responsiveness. Moving the receiver to a different USB port, using a short USB extension to position it closer to the device, or reducing nearby wireless obstructions may improve the connection. Keep Logi Options, Logi Bolt software, and device firmware updated when Logitech provides an update for your hardware.

Choosing the right Logitech utility

Use Logi Options when you need productivity features such as custom shortcuts, gestures, scrolling controls, and application profiles. Use Logi Bolt software for compatible Bolt receiver and pairing tasks, and use G HUB for supported gaming devices. Selecting the utility that matches the hardware helps avoid unnecessary drivers and makes troubleshooting simpler.
